Queen Myriam Back on Top!

It's been over two years since Myriam Nicole found herself on the top step of a podium, and after a well documented road back from injury it all came together on the weekend at Loudenvielle where she cemented her comeback with a brilliant performance. 

The exposed, open top section of the mountain was almost completely  obscured by thick fog as the race got underway, with the faster qualifiers setting off in white-out conditions and unable to see the lines in front of them. 

 

After a succession of top-five finishes over the past few months she was due a win and, roared on by the home crowd, she slipped into the provisional lead by just 0.047 seconds at the second time split. She dropped 0.363 down at the third split but a flying run saw her power back into the lead, and she crossed the line 1.145 seconds ahead of her Austrian rival to move into the hot seat. She’d remain there until the end of the race and so completing an incredible and hard fought comeback.

"At this race last year I was not sure if I would ever race again - I was completely lost - and this year I win! Being back on the top step means the world to me. It's a dream come true."

A heavy downpour just before the men's start made for a treacherous track. Amaury experienced some of the toughest conditions, and while things started well with a green first split, he overcooked it and went down. He still managed to finish in 10th place with a smile. 

"I really attacked the top section, then I came into that grass corner too fast. I was like a turtle on my back, trying to get up without getting my gloves muddy. It's sad to lose the overall, but I'm proud of myself this season."

Earlier in the day, with Max Alran last to start his run down for the Junior Men, and a whole lot of pressure building he once again demonstrated his winning mentality. Lightning speed and a couple of pretty sensational scrubs grabbed him his third win of the World Cup season, and with it the overall lead with one round to go.

Heather Wilson continued her push for the overall women's Junior title with third spot on the podium and now looks to Mont Sainte-Anne with the aim to bring it home.
